Decorex & Focus 2016

Visiting these two design shows is always a great source of inspiration with hundreds of stands all beautifully designed and full of things I love - fabrics, furniture, lighting, decorative finishes ...

I particularly liked this hanging lighting at Ochre which would look fabulous above a dining table or in a meeting room.

And, more lovely lighting by Pooky.

These coloured knobs from Haute Deco also caught my eye.

There are always a huge number of fabric designers at Decorex and Focus.  It is a great way to catch up with all my suppliers and view the latest collections which are often launched at these shows. And, very tempting to spend lots on fabric books!  Here is the Titley & Marr stand showing off their new Gujarat Collection.

The decorations for Focus 2016 at the Design Centre Chelsea Harbour Focus were AMAZING.  Red Photographic Ltd has kindly let me use some of their images as my happy snaps didn't do justice to the wonderful flower displays and the curtain "tassel" chandelier.

And, this photograph - again by Red Photographic Ltd - really summed up the day for me ..

I felt just like a child in a sweet shop!!  ...

Celebrating Two Significant Centenaries!

There seems to be so many grim and depressing things happening in the world at the moment it is nice to find something to celebrate!

I am a great fan of Roald Dahl and spent many happy years reading his books to my children. Quentin Blake's very distinctive illustrations are equally wonderful.  When I spotted The Fantabulous Fabric collection by Ashley Wilde I decided it would have to be added to our fabric collection in the studio.  I can't think of a better way to bring a little bit of magic into a child's bedroom whether they are used for blinds, curtains, a chair cover or just a cushion!   The fabric is 100% cotton - easy to wash and hardwearing.  All your favourites  - Matilda, the BFG, James and the Giant Peach, Twits, Fantatic Mr Fox even Lickwashing Sweets and Whizz Banger spots!

And, thanks to Steven Spielberg we can enjoy the BFG at the cinema this summer!

We have also been celebrating the centenary of the death of the talented William Morris - revolutionary socialist, cultural critic, writer, designer - in 1896.  Of course, it is his work as a designer that I really admire.  His wallpapers and fabrics are still very popular and William Morris & Co are ensuring his legacy lives on by carefully re-creating his designs.  The team at their studio give some of the enduring favourites a contemporary twist and lesser known wallpapers a new lease of life.

This wallpaper and fabric is a reproduction of an early paper - Indian - 1868-70.  Similar in appearance to the block printed original this comes in two colours.

I recently used a new design, Kelmscott Tree by Alison Gee, for some curtains at a lovely renovated 17th century property.   Inspired by Morris's bed curtains at his home, Kelmscott Manor, which were embroidered by May Morris in 1891. Kelmscott Tree has been painted in the Morris studio and adapted into a beautiful embroidery of trees, birds and flowers.

This fabric is available in three colours.

Two very talented men whose legacies will live on forever - hooray!!

Hints of the Sea

I often get asked to bring a hint of the sea and general beach life into the home especially holiday homes so I thought it would helpful to create a page of ideas........ so here goes.

Wallpaper and fabrics are a good place to start:

And, these two lovely fabrics by Emily Bond are perfect for a child's bedroom.

Maps and prints .............

Nautical mirrors like this Ship's Mirror ......

Or, accessories in colours that are a reminder of the sea such as this useful jute basket in "seaspray"
Rugs ......

Decorative hanging fish...

 A throw .....
A seashore scented bar of soap or candle

We all like to incorporate some of our favourite things from outside into the home whether obvious or subtle and living by the sea is very inspirational when it comes to styling .  And, it certainly doesn't have to cost much - a simple piece of driftwood found on the beach or a collection of pebbles in a jar are just as attractive as any bought items.

Have fun!

Getting Creative

Since I last wrote over a year ago (!) I seem to have been so busy I haven't managed to find the time to write anything!  Therefore, I thought it appropriate to show off some of the projects that have been taking up so much of my time and attention .....

First up, one of our current commissions, a restored 17th century building. Oak wood panels being installed in what will be a music room with some close-ups showing off a few of the lovely details created by local bespoke furniture makers, Shawstephens.

More photographs to follow once the room has been completed.  There will also be a beautiful fireplace made from locally sourced stone.

Next, a kitchen window seat we had made from Arran Oatmeal fabric by Ian Mankin & fish cushions from Voyage.

A couple of photographs taken by Colin Poole of a seaside holiday home finished earlier this year.  It has since been featured in 25 Beautiful Homes Magazine!  The two photographs I have chosen show the lovely light sitting room and one of the bedrooms.  I am particularly pleased with the bedhead!

And, last a pretty antique wooden chair that we restored and upholstered on behalf of a customer in an attractive, hard wearing fabric (Oakleigh) by Colefax & Fowler.

It is always lovely to be busy and with such a mix of commissions there is never a dull moment. I have promised to take more photographs and will endeavour to share them with you at least once a month!

Rainy Bank Holiday Monday

Thanks to the rain I'm spending bank holiday Monday sorting things.  I've just stumbled upon this photo of the Dupere team with our friends at Logo Design creating the website last August and thought I would share it.

Can't believe the website has been operational a year - scary how time flies - we're still tweaking and making changes to it!

High Flying Fruit & Produce

I rashly mentioned in my last blog that I was intending entering the Modbury Fruit and Produce Show. At that time I hadn't appreciated it was being held on the same day as Yeovilton Airshow which I had promised to take my daughter to.  However, I did have two Dupere representatives who entered various produce in a number of categories and I am delighted to report they both won prizes!

Yeovilton Airshow was VERY impressive and VERY hot!  We had a great day, saw lots but felt exhausted by the time we got home.  Feeling inspired by our outing I had a look through my books to see if I had any material featuring airplanes and was delighted to find this one of bi-planes by Emily Bond. It would make fabulous blinds or curtains for a boys room.

August is the month for sailing regattas.  Salcombe YC Regatta is happening this week, Dartmouth Royal Regatta at the end of the month.  We love sailing and I have a lot of nautical themed material and wallpaper. Also, I stock nice model yachts like this one.

If you are interested in seeing more please do contact me.  They often end up in seaside hotels, restaurants and offices but also make wonderful presents

I will attempt to write more in my next blog but right now I've got head to Salcombe as my son is racing this afternoon and I promised I would be there to watch him!

It's All About Winning

It's nearly that time of year again when my competitive nature comes to the fore. Right now I am busily planning what to enter in Modbury's annual Fruit & Produce Show.

Last year the 'Dupere' entries did ok.

Mind you there were only 2 entries in this class!

The really challenging classes for me are the vegetable ones.  I am a fair weather gardener so you've got to be tough to survive in my veg patch.  My cabbages .....

will not be going to the show but to the guinea pigs! Anyway I have digressed, this is supposed to have some relevance to interiors, fabrics or some of the lovely things we are lucky enough to sell in the shop.

So, here is a picture of Arwyn's beautiful pottery that we sell.  Do have a look at our website, my favourite is this blue but we also have cream.   Hopefully will be stocking some of the green glaze soon.

And that's my veg. I'm particularly chuffed with the potatoes as I wasn't aware I was growing them this year!

In keeping with the fruit and vegetable theme; our ever popular "post it" notes...

Charming tea towels, beautifully packaged and easy to send as a pressie.....

Fabrics, two very different ones, Scion's retro 'carrots and peas'  and Voyage's 'market veg' shown on ivory linen also available on a natural linen and as an oil cloth.

10% off any Scion and Voyage fabrics if you like us on Facebook and mention our blog and/or website from now until the end of July!

Rather proud of this photo which neatly links the Fruit & Produce programme with one of the new Ian Sanderson vintage style cushions.

Must sign off as I am meant to be creating some covers for our new deckchairs and if I don't do it now the summer will be over!  I'll write again next month and let you know how I get on at the show.
